LKU SEASON 3

LKU ( Latihan Ketenteraan Umum or better known as Latihan Kepenatan Unggul by us ) was over around 3 weeks ago . This was the 3rd time I went through LKU throughout my studies here in UPNM . That’s why it is called season 3 . This time around , the training is kinda more relaxed than previous LKUs . 1st of all , the training period itself is shorter than the previous LKU Season 2 which is 4 weeks compared to 10 weeks . Well , for those who are still in the blue , LKU is the term for the military training that we go through every time we have end of semester break . Be it 1st or 2nd semester . We seldom have it during mid-sems as mid-sem breaks are normally too short to proceed with our training ( 1 week only ) . Even if there IS training , it’s only for 2 or 3 days only and can’t qualify as LKU . Hehe .. During each end-of-sem holiday , we will be given 1 week off ( only ) and training will start after that . The routine for this season are as follows : -

Monday – Thursday :

0630H – Fall in at the football field for PT ( Physical Training ) which includes running , push-ups , sit-ups , jumping jacks ……. Training is accompanied with special equipments ie 7 kg backpacks , logs , “tong peluru” etc .. The equipments are alternated as we have to go through different training routines..

0830H – Military Knowledge class . Basically it includes military law , military administration , map reading , camouflage etc .. But we didn’t really learn much as we have already learned most of it during the last season..

1015H – Tea Break..

1045H – Class continues..

1230H – Lunch and rest..

1430H – Class continues ( again?haha..we change subjects ok? =p )

1600H – Class ends and rest..

1645H – Sports..

1900H – Dinner and rest..

2230H – Roll Call..

2359H – Lights off and sleep..

Friday

0630H – Fall in at the football field for PT as usual..

0830H – Military Knowledge class ..

1015H – Tea Break..

1045H – Class continues..

1230H – Lunch and rest..

1430H – Fall in at the football field again for TTS ( Tempur Tanpa Senjata ) . To make it easy , Self Defense..

1800H – Training ends..

1930H – Regimental Night Dinner and rest..

2230H – Roll Call..

2359H – Lights off and sleep..

Saturday

0630H – Fall in at the football field for PT as usual..

0830H – Military Knowledge class ..

1015H – Tea Break..

1045H – Class continues..

1230H – Lunch and rest for the rest of the day..

2230H – Roll Call..

2359H – Lights off and sleep..

Sunday

Whole day rest ( But the Christians and Buddhists get to go out for prayers and thus outing . Haha .. )

Oh ya .. Did I mention that I was the official photographer for my intake during this LKU season ? Hehe .. It feels nice being able to capture all the happenings during military training that normally can’t be seen elsewhere ..

After this whole ordeal , I realized that our bond and brotherhood has grown stronger even though there still are some misunderstandings and feelings of  dissatisfaction among us . Although I am a lone wolf ; a person that does things and act on his own , I figured out that sometimes wolves move in packs as well . In the end of the day , whether I am a loner or a group person , I guess i am just another face in the crowd .. =p

MUM’S LITTLE SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY..

Me  :  Ma , there’s a health talk show on the TV tonight that I think you might be interested in ..

Mum  :  Owh ? Which channel ?

Me  :  I’m not very sure . Should be Astro Channel 7++ or 3++ .. Ask Yumiko to check it for you la later ..

Mum  :  ……. ( Nods her head )

After we finished our meal and cleaned up , mum went to the living room and indeed she asked my little sister to look up the channels for her . And that was when I took out ….. Jeng Jeng Jeng ..

I was keeping it in the fridge since before dinner . My heart almost dropped out when she opened the fridge door to put something in . But luckily I was in time to stop her and said I will put it in for her . Haha.. I usually failed in giving her a surprise as she will normally find the cake in the fridge . Her birthday was on 30th of December but since I wasn’t able to be at home during that time , I decided to celebrate it just a few days later on 2nd of January ..

As a tradition we normally take a family photo every time we celebrated  something especially when there is a cake present . As I was using the ” 3 Continuous Shots After 10 Seconds” mode of my camera , my brother decided to perform his ” Face-Changing Trick ” . Haha..

MUMMY’S BIRTHDAY..

OMG OMG OMG!!!!! It’s mum’s birthday today . And guess what ? Out of all the days I forgot TODAY . What the hell am I thinking man . Luckily my younger brother smsed me telling me ” Do u know what day is 2day, u should look into the calender. ” …. Then it struck me . OMFG!!!!! It’s mum’s birthday !!!!! Well , luckily I made it in time and wished her ‘Happy Birthday’ over the phone . Damn , if not I’ll fell guilty for the rest of the 365 days . Haha..What a son I am eh? XD

INTER-BATALION ECO-CHALLENGE RACE

Date : 8th December 2009
Time : 0730H – 1600H
Venue : UPNM , Bukit Besi , 1st Royal Malay Regiment Shooting Range , RMC/UPNM Boat House

This event is the first of it’s kind to be held in UPNM . Well , actually not . It used to be an annual event in our university . But this year , it is done in a totally different style . Army Infantry style . Last time it used to be just swimming , 1.6 km run , kayaking , then another 1.6km run to the finishing line . Wearing only sports attire . And each part is done by different people . This year ? The race is WAYYYYYY thougher . How tougher is it ? Judge for yourselves ..

First , the track . Participants have to run cross country for 12km . 12km on a flat road is already damn hard . Imagine going through the woods , up the hill and down the slopes . Damn .. Then , participants have to go through a set of obstacle courses  eg. the 6 feet wall , monkey rack , commando crawl , 12 feet wall etc . After that , comes the rifle shooting  where participant are required to shoot down as many targets as possible out of the 10 targets and only 10 bullets are provided . Next is a 2.5km run to the Boat House where The kayaking activity takes place . Then it’s kayaking all the way to the finishing line . And it is done in a group of 26 people which we call a platoon . The hard part ? EVERYONE in the platoon must go through the WHOLE race . Baffled ? Had your mouth wide open now ? Wait till you hear the next challenge that the participants had to face . First , lets take a look at their attire ..

And there are also certain things that they need to carry along throughout the race ..

Car Tyre . Each Platoon Is Required To Carry 2..

The Box For Bullets Or As We Call It “Tong Peluru” . Each Platoon Is Required To Carry 4 . But It Is Only Filled With Sand . You Can’t Just Run Around The Place Carrying Bullets Can You ? =p

( Superman ? Haha.. )The “Log” ; A Large Piece Of Wood . Each Platoon Is Required To Carry Two ..

Of course there won’t be only ONE person carrying all these things all throughout the race . Participants are allowed to change the items among them . And there are 26 participants in 1 platoon . So participants will have a break from carrying these things from time to time . There are 10 platoons which took part in this race . 2 platoons from each battalion ; Tuah , Jebat , Kasturi , Lekir and Lekiu . It was a disappointing day though . As 2 person from 1st platoon of my battalion ( Kasturi ) collapsed and bailed out from the race and this caused them a large amount of penalty points . As a result , they came last in the ranking . Whereas the 2nd platoon only managed to emerge 5th out of the 10 places . Anyways , here are a few other shots i took on that day . And I was 1 of the event photographers . Haha..

Oh yea .. I forgot to mention that there was a barbecue going on as well on that day . Haha..Although my battalion lost the race , I still felt proud of those who participated in this race as they have tried their best and pushed themselves to their limits..

So I guess this is where I should put a full stop to this post . Feeling sleepy now and gotta wake up early tomorrow for PT ( Physical Training ).. Till the next post , chao.. =p

FIRST DAY OF TRAINING..

Military training a.k.a LKU ( Latihan Ketenteraan Umum / Latihan Kepenatan Unggul ) officially starts today . It started with the opening ceremony in the morning and military classes in the afternoon and evening . No PT ( Physical Training ) for today and no sports as well . We learned FSMO ( Full Service Marching Order ) dress code and the necessary items that must be present along with it . We also learned disguise and camouflage using man – made items ; camouflage paint and natural sources ; grass,leaves etc . Well , as far as I can tell this first day into hell wasn’t that bad . Just hope that I haven’s spoke too soon ..

BACK HOME..

Woohoo !! I am back home..Haha..It’s always nice to be back . The cosy house , the comfortable bed , the quite smooth traffic , the half fresh air , the sense of belonging and most importantly the FREEDOM . Haha.. I hitched a ride back with Ang . He went to KL on Saturday for something and offered me a lift as he was coming back to Sitiawan as well on Sunday . I was actually released on Saturday but I decided to stay 1 more night and tag along with him the next day . It’s a 50/50 decision as I was released Saturday afternoon and I could have taken a bus and reached home in the evening . But it was a decision not regretted . Went out with Justin , Ang and Tze Yuen for “Midnight Pool” . Haha..The place we went was quite decent . Although our shirt smell like cigarette (normal la..) when we came back to Tze Yuen’s hostel apartment , we don’t really mind . Haha..

On our way back we came across 2 police road blocks . Justin start makin fun of them in the car (not in front of them of course) . At the 1st road block , we got stopped . Ang scrolled down the window and the policeman made his serious face and shone the flashlight at each and every 1 of us . After around 30 seconds , the guy finally spoke “Saja-saja nak buat majik dengan korang..“ We were like wtf wtf !!!!! But in a pleased way . Haha..It was a good laugh though . XD ..We also came across this car with a damn nice license plate number..

We reached Tze Yuen’s hostel apartment around 4 am . We were dead tired and went straight to bed . The next morning me and Ang woke up at 10 am and went for brunch around 11 am . After that , we started our journey back to Sitiawan..Before going back , we made a pit stop to Rebecca’s (Ang’s elder sister) rented house somewhere in Sunway to pass her some stuffs . She’s doing Industrial Training sumwhere around that area ..
